Rolling bolster

Rolling bolster is a very common mechanical press upgrade, which makes quick, easy and safe die (tool) change possible. Rolling bolster is a wheeled motorized table of a press. Its movement is limited by its tracks. Tracks are usually set up to allow one direction or “T” movement.

The usage of rolling bolster:

When changing die (tool), the die’s upper plate is unclamped. Rolling bolster is than driven together with the die out of the press. This makes possible crane manipulation of the die (tool) from above. Die (tool) can easily and quickly be changed. Time of press non-productivity can be shortened by using two rolling bolsters. In this case the tool is already clamped to the second moving bolster when die (tool) change procedure starts. Time of press non-productivity is shortened only on time necessary for driving the first rolling bolster out of the press and driving the second rolling bolster with new die (tool) in. If using automatic die (tool) clamp system for upper die (tool) plate, production can start in less than a minute after rolling bolster is locked on its working position.

Die (tool) brackets

Die (tool) brackets are a good solution for quick and easier die (tool) change when upgrading smaller to medium sized presses.

Die (tool) brackets are firmly attached arms with rolls, which are lifted from the side of the press, to create laying ground surface for tool extraction from the press table. After extracting die (tool) from the press on die brackets, die (tool) is accessible for crane manipulation (accessible from above). Die brackets are also economically favorable solution, that requires no additional space in production facilities.

Die (tool) lifting bars

Die (tool) lifting bars are pneumatically or hydraulically charged bars with rolls used to minimize or avoid surface friction when sliding the die (tool) out of the press or from the press table. The bars are installed in the press table permanently.

During production time the rolls of die (tool) lifters are hidden inside the bar and under the zero level of the press table. Usage of die (tool) lifting bars is possible only when the press is stopped, the die (tool) is unclamped and the press is opened. Die (tool) lifting bars are charged. Rolls of the die (tool) lifting bars, firmly installed on its position in the bar, lift the die (tool) just above press table surface level. The die (tool) is ready for non sliding extraction from the press and the press table manually or by using push&pull system.

Push & pull system

Push & pull system is an automated system for quick die (tool) changing. It is used for quick die changing in the press. Operating is performed by control panel that is set on the side of the device. Automatic and manual die change is possible. Push&pull die changing system is optimized by using lifting bars. The unit itself can be consisted out of car with drive, die plate, push and pull unit and lifting table. One of the possible versions of quick die (tool) changing systems is also a platform that can be adjusted and included for specific working area. These platforms are usually custom made.


Die is mounted on one of the die plate which is positioned on the die cart, and protected with the hydraulic safety pins from miss-alignment. When the die in the press is completely unclamped and die clamps safely removed out of die space the cycle for die change can start. Die moving cylinders travel into the press to hook the die plate, than lifting bars in the press are charged to lift the die (tool). Die moving cylinders are retracted and the die is pulled onto the die cart till the hook released position on the cart. In the same time safety pins are lifted. The piston of cylinder is retracted completely to allow die carts movement.

Die cart then moves in loading position. The die plate with the new die is pushed into the press. First hook lifter and safety pins cylinders are retracted. Die moving cylinder pushes the die off the die cart over the support consoles and die lifters into the press. When end position is reached die lifters are lowered and die plate is unhooked.

Cushion draw and ejector table

Cushion draw is used in deep drawing presses. It allows the technology of deep draw metal forming and ejecting with ejector in the table of the press.

Cushion draw is installed in the table of the press. It is designed to retain the lower part of deep drawing tool with specific force needed by production technology of specific part. Cushion draw is also used for plunging retraction of ejector pins.

Drives of cushion draw can be mechanical or hydraulic. Mechanically driven cushion draw is used for higher production efficiency and is less flexible for adjustments. Hydraulic cushion draw is highly adjustable, but less productive.

Cushion draw is controlled trough main control unit; its use is synchronized with the press.

Fast hydraulic clamps

Fast hydraulic clamps are used to shorten die (tool) changing time. After inserting (die) tool into the press, tool can be fastened to the table manually (using screws and wrenches) or using the fast option – hydraulic clamp system.

Fast clamping system can be installed as the only press upgrade or as part of upgrades that allow automated and very fast die (tool) change and so increase production line efficiency. These upgrades are mostly used in highly productive sheet metal production lines, where dies (tools) are changed many times a day. Fast clamping system, together with tool carts, push and pull systems, lifting bars, etc., is an upgrade very commonly used in tandem production lines. With proper combination and layout of upgrades die (tool) changing is executed simultaneously – on all presses at once; the time of die (tool) changing can be lowered from one hour to only a few minutes.
